Ka Makani Unisex Tailored Shirt

Every aloha shirt tells a story, and Hawai‘i Preparatory Academy’s story is one of warriors and winds, rainbows and ʻōhiʻa, palaka and pines. Our story is shaped by the place and the traditions that define Ka Makani. This year, as we proudly celebrate HPA’s 75th anniversary, we are honored to present this special edition collection.

Inspired by the storied designs made famous by HPAʻs McCullough ʻohana here in Waimea, this fabric was woven and printed in Japan using U.S. grown cotton and made with care in Hawaiʻi. These special garments pay tribute to some of HPA’s most enduring elements:

• Palaka represents more than just a pattern; it symbolizes Waimea’s paniolo and their integrity, a core value of HPA.
• The iconic "A" is a nod to our athletic power and school spirit.
• The ōhiʻa lehua flower and the emblem of the ōhiʻa tree honor HPA’s school symbol and Hawai‘i Island’s most prominent tree.
• Davies Memorial Chapel and our flagpole gathering place represent the structures that shape our Upper Campus.
• The Village Campus vignette recognizes HPA's deep roots in the heart of Waimea town and the place that nourishes our youngest Ka Makani.
• The evening sun through the tree line, galloping horses, and rainbow arching over Hōkūʻula are everyday scenes of exceptional beauty at HPA.
• The words of Hole Waimea and the spears of Kamehameha’s kīpuʻupuʻu warriors with the currents of the wind and water were originally envisioned by Sig Zane for HPA. These elements are foundational to HPA and our place on the island.
• The lei is a universal symbol of aloha. At HPA, lei is tied to our most cherished celebrations.
• HPA’s school seal is the official representation of our deep history and enduring spirit.
